Columbus, Ohio: A “shelter in place” advisory has been lifted at Ohio State University’s campus. One suspect is dead and several victims are reported as wounded. It is unlikely that another suspect is at large, as was earlier reported, since the advisory has been lifted.
One witness, identified as Naqil, says that a man pulled a fire alarm and responded by first running over people with his car, and then slashing at students and faculty as they evacuated the building. Police responded by shooting the suspect.
A faculty member reports that one of his colleagues was cut by a machete.
The state of the victims has been described as ranging from stable to critical. At 12:20 pm EST, NBC4 reported that four victims were taken to the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries.” The AP reports that the injuries are the result of stab wounds and the vehicle incident.
Ohio State President Michael Drake is expected to speak soon.
